Hermit (6 of Pentacles)
In the deepest recess of your soul there is the effervescent light of wisdom, and, through the many trials and tribulations encountered, you develop a deeper understanding of this knowledge. Situations that seem unfair are simply out of balance with your understanding of this wisdom. Before pointing the finger or bending over backwards, determine what is most appropriate for you. Be honest with what you are giving in relation to what you are receiving; it may be time to step it up or cut it out. Your actions will fall under scrutiny around the 24th, so don’t be afraid to speak your truth."
"The evenly balanced scale that the man holds should be an indicator of justice and righteousness, but this anonymous man's version of what is just and right may be out of balance with reality. The floating Pentacles having no relation to the unfolding scene indicate that this is not a card of certainty or assurances. This card reveals that what you thought you wanted was not necessarily best for you. Success and failure are arbitrary and capricious; the appearance of balance is an illusion. In the preceding card of the Pentacles suit, two beggars walk past a stained glass church window. In this card, two beggars appear to be getting what they want. But when they were on the outside looking in, they were standing. Here they get what they want, but they are kneeling. Which position is worse? Meanwhile, the man standing in this picture is obviously a man of worldly means, but there is no glamour in his charity, no one watching or applauding him. He carries the balance as a personal gauge of what needs to be done. His heart and mind are not in this at all."
Hermit
Upright: Soul-searching, introspection, being alone, inner guidance
Reversed: Isolation, loneliness, withdrawal
"The Hermit stands alone on the top of a mountain with a lantern in his hand. Mountains typically symbolise achievement, growth, and accomplishment. The Hermit has attained his spiritual pinnacle and is ready to share his knowledge with others. He is also continuing the path he has chosen, committed to his goal of ultimate awareness. The star in the lantern is a six-pointed star (the Seal of Solomon, a symbol of wisdom). The staff carried by the Hermit is the patriarch’s staff, a symbol of the narrow path of initiation and an emblem of power and authority. It represents the Hermit’s ability to use his isolation and the knowledge he has gained as a tool upon his path to reach even higher levels of awareness. The staff is in the Hermit’s left hand, the hand associated with the subconscious mind. The snow at his feet represents the heights of spiritual attainment. He wears the grey cloak of invisibility. His secrets are not for everyone, only for those earnestly seeking them and those willing to climb the heights to wisdom. ""
- Introspection ----- Silence ----- Guidance ----- Reflection
- Solitude ----- Looking inward ----- Reclusion ----- Being quiet
- Inner search ----- Deep understanding ----- Isolation
- Distance ----- Retreat ----- Philosophical attitude
There are two possible ways this card can be interpreted:
- First, the need to withdraw from society to become comfortable with himself.
- Second, the return from isolation to share his knowledge with others.
